July 2011 Committee Meeting Minutes

Meeting: July 13

The meeting started at 7:00 pm, at St. Camillus Church with the following adult members in attendance: Marilyn Moon, Colleen Chamberlain, Gary Wolford, Betsy Wolford and Donna Matuch. Jonathan Wherry represented the scouts.

Financial: Current balances not available at this meeting. Phillip is on vacation and the receipts from Philaganza have not yet been included in the tally. Amy had prepared a statement of expenses for the trip with total expenses at $1,957.67, cash in at $1,350.00. Expenses included transportation, food, entertainment and lodging. The overage for the trip was $607.67

A Blood Drive will be held on July 18 (Monday night) at the First Alliance Church from 2-8. All scouts are encouraged to use this time for community service. Parents are encouraged to donate a pint of blood.

After-action comments from Philaganza were mostly positive with the exception of the oversight of the Boardwalk water park. Our hosts Tony and Laura Visco (Amy Na’s parents) were gracious hosts to a backyard full of scouts. A personalized thank-you photo was mailed to the Viscos.
Jonathan Wherry presented his Eagle project idea to the adults. He will create benches for the City
Rescue Mission.

The SPL’s agenda was not available for the up-coming weeks.

The troop will not be selling additional items during the Christmas holiday, i.e. Mona’s Chocolates.
When the merit badge counselor list is complete, a copy will be distributed to the scouts.
Gary will again take the position as popcorn kernel for the annual popcorn sale.

All adults must complete the Youth Protection Training prior to the end of the year. A copy of the certificate should go to Colleen.

Starting July 25, Monday meetings will be held at Pearson Park till further notice.

Merit badge work will be held at a Monday meeting once a month. On July 25, Personal Management (Michael Matuch) and Family Life (Donna Matuch) will be reviewed for those who are interested in these Eagle required badges. Any counselor who wishes to coordinate merit badge work on a Monday meeting to help the scouts, please contact Colleen.

Bike aboard event (July 30) may be moved to Stavich Trail in New Castle due to the inability to transport the trailer.

Colleen will follow-up with scheduling Den Chief training. This training needs to be completed in August or September.

Zachary Matuch had suggested joint campout with Troop 746. When a date is set for Woodsy Owl, we will extend the opportunity to this young troop.

The Ryan family has generously offered to host a weekend event to focus on the Soil & Conservation badge and the Farm Machinery badge. The last weekend in August was suggested. More information will follow.

Father Tom has requested a calendar of events (up till May 2012). Colleen will forward this information.

Jeepfest: The menu will remain the same as prior years: soda, pizza, hot dogs, hamburgers, nachos and ice cream. Marilyn will investigate the cost for the sausage sandwiches.
