Committee Meeting Minutes 11/1/11

The meeting started at 7:02 pm, at St. Camillus Church with the following adult members in attendance: Colleen Chamberlain, Gary Wolford, Nathan Teodoro and Donna Matuch. Evan Lucas attended the meeting on behalf of the scouts.

The meeting began with some overall website training by Nathan. Colleen, Gary, Donna and Nathan will be able to make entries into the website in the future. The website is a work in progress and many people are interested in the content of the site. Any suggestions for improvement are graciously accepted.

Financial: Treasurer’s report was not provided for this meeting.
After-action:


  • Colleen reported on the participation for the Shelter 5K and Haunted Cheeseman’s Farm. Both events had a small turnout but scouts had a good time. 
  • The Camporee at Agawam had a favorable turnout and turkey meal was delicious! 
  • Donna reported on the Halloween meeting at the Matuch home. Due to the weather conditions, the event was moved indoors, but the boys enjoyed themselves. 
  • Thanks to the Ryan’s for the wood for the fire and all the parents for joining in the festivities. 
  • Gary reported on the popcorn sales which were dismal. Sales for the troop were $1,615 with profit for the troop at $549.
    Important dates for popcorn:
    November 11-Popcorn delivery (at Classico)
    December 5-Popcorn order payments due.

    Next year the troop may offer incentives for top sellers as well as make plans for a Show and Sell event.
Old Business:
  • Gary will reserve Colonial Lanes for the New Year’s Eve celebration, 6-9 pm. This will be a potluck event. He will also look into the costs for the laser tag set for December 27. Confirmation for laser tag will be required by December 12. 
New Business: 
  • SPL Evan reported that even though the numbers in the scouts have been reduced, the troop is coming together. He will plan upcoming events for the next month at the meeting on November 7 at 6:00 pm. He will add winter survival techniques, knots, first aid and lashings as part of the future meetings. He will also focus on Pittsburgh event and some winter activities. 
  • Pack 743 is moving to First Alliance Church in December. It is suggested that the Troop stay together with the Pack in order to maintain a good working relationship for all scouts. This issue is still pending.
  • A trip to Riverquest (Pittsburgh) for a spring or summer activity for the boys was suggested by Steve Craig. 
  • Gary will set up a date for the scouts to attend a township supervisor meeting. It may be on December 12 and caroling will need to be moved. 
  • He is also looking into a fire safety program with the Neshannock Fire Department for the fire safety merit badge. 
  • Gary will also review the troop’s charter paperwork with Doug Moon to ensure that it is prepared correctly. 
  • Calls will also be made to older scouts to ensure they want to remain “active” with the troop. 
  • Lynne Ryan is looking into the cost for new sweatshirts for the troop and registered members. Cost is $35 for full zipped hooded sweatshirt with embroidery and $27for pullover sweatshirt with embroidery. Color will be voted on by the boys on November 7. Prices for screen printing will be reviewed. 
  • Chess is a new merit badge and time will be set aside to allow the boys to learn to play. Merit badge counselor is Lynne Ryan. 
  • Pack Blue and Gold event is scheduled for February 18. The troop is invited to this event to support cubs that are crossing over. 
  • Spaghetti dinner fundraiser date is Saturday, February 25. This event will be held at Pearson Park at the Hutchinson Center from 4-7 pm. (Set up and clean up times will be added to this timeframe.) All scouts and parents are requested to help with this event. 
  • The Boy Scout Winter Camporee (Klondike) is scheduled for February 3-5, 2012. Details will follow. 
UPCOMING EVENTS: 
  • St. Vitus Food Pantry (November 5): Scouts will help with food donations. Meet at 10:00 am at St. Vitus, finish around 1:00 pm. Class A uniform required. 
  • Youngstown Phantom Hockey (November 5): Cost is $8 and will include a patch. Cub scouts will be invited to attend the event. 
  • Operation Christmas Child (November 7): Annual event to make boxes for the holiday program. Pizza will be provided and the Monday night meeting will start at 6:00. 
  • Popcorn Delivery (November 11): Unload and sort popcorn delivery at Classico facility. Start time 5:00 pm. 
  • Veteran’s Day Parade (November 12): Meet at Beer 4 Less at 10:00 am, the parade will start at 12:00 pm. 
  • Court of Honor (November 14): MC will be Sam Craig. A speaker is needed for this event. Popcorn orders will be available at this meeting. 
  • Fall Pow Wow (November 19): Training at the Preston Center will focus on adults and scout’s Den Chief Training. 
  • Popcorn (December 5): All popcorn payments are due at this Monday’s meeting. 
  • St. Vitus (December 10): Scouts will help with food donations. Meet at 10:00 am at St. Vitus, finish around 1:00 pm. Class A uniform required. 
  • Caroling (December 12): Monday night caroling, location to be determined by Amy Na. Boys with instruments are encouraged to bring them for accompaniment or solos. (This may need to be re-scheduled to another date, based on township supervisor meeting). 
  • Laser Tag (December 27): Leaving approximately 12:00 pm for two games. Adult drivers will be needed. 
  • Bowling party (December 31): New Year’s Eve party at Colonial Lanes, 6-9 pm. Potluck menu. 
  • Boy Scout Winter Camporee (Klondike) (February 3-5, 2012): Details will follow. 
  • Court of Honor (February 13, 2012): More information to follow. 
  • Pack 743 Blue and Gold Event (February 18, 2012): Troop is invited to attend. Details to follow.
  • Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser (February 25, 2012): A Saturday in Pearson Park in the Hutchinson Center from 4-7 pm. All scouting families are requested to support this event. (Set up and clean up times will be added to this timeframe.) 
  • Tan and Green Banquet (May 18, 2012): More information to follow. 
The meeting schedule for the Committee is the 1st Tuesday of the month. The next meeting is scheduled for December 6 at 7:00 pm.
