Spring Camporee/Medallion Hike

KING BEAVER DISTRICT INVITES ALL TROOPS/SPRING CAMP & HIKE APRIL 27-29: WEBELOS DENS ARE WELCOME TO HIKE FOR THE DAY AND EARN THE MEDALLION.

We will camp at the organized group tent camping area at the 5 Points Camp on the North Shore near the rental cabins.

JOIN US FOR OUR SPRING HIKE, HELL’S HOLLOW, SLIPPERY ROCK GORGE, KILLDO TRAIL AND ALPHA PASS.

GET YOUR SCOUTS STARTED ON HIKING MERIT BADGE.

Friday evening program: Hiking preparedness and safety, Wilderness First Aid.

COME FOR THE DAY OR SPEND THE WEEKEND. EVERY HIKER AND CAMPER WILL RECEIVE A HIKING STAFF MEDALLION AS PART OF THEIR REGISTRATION FEE.

WE WILL CAMP AT MORAINE STATE PARK AND UNITS WILL NEED TO PROVIDE SOME TRANSPORTATION TO THE START AND FINISH AREAS OF THE HIKE.

SCOUTS SHOULD HAVE A DAY PACK (WATER, LUNCH SNACK, DRY SOCKS) AND POSSIBLY A HIKING STICK AS PARTS OF THE TRAIL CAN BE CHALLENGING.

Saturday morning program: Hike- several configurations available to accommodate different abilities and goals. The most scenic and most challenging is the Slippery Rock Gorge trail, and the route can be 10 miles if desired (so that it can be used toward the hiking merit badge)-We will need some car pooling to transport scouts & leaders to the start and to return from the finish lines of the hikes.

Saturday afternoon program: The K-9 S.O.S Search and Rescue team will present a program in camp.

Saturday evening program: The State Park staff and outside Search and Rescue personnel will present a program after dinner.

All meals are the responsibility of the individual units. Some central on-ground fire area is available, please bring off ground cooking facilities if desired. ADULTS TAKING THE HIKE NEED TO BE IN GOOD PHYSICAL CONDITION AS DO THE SCOUTS. THERE ARE SIGNIFICANT SECTIONS OF THE TRAIL THAT HAVE NO CLOSE ACCESS TO ROADS SO ‘BE PREPARED’. SCOUTS AND LEADERS MAY WANT TO BRING CAMERAS AS THE TRAIL IS QUITE SCENIC.
