Boy Scout Troop 743, Committee Meeting Minutes

May 1, 2012

Meeting started 7:05 pm at First Alliance Church. Members in attendance: Colleen Chamberlain, Phillip Lucas and Donna Matuch. AJ Parsch represented the scouts.

Financial: Balance is $6,172.74. Phillip will send letters to scouts regarding dues. Motion was made to incorporate balances from inactive scouts into the general fund. Agreed.

Website update: No information provided. Need to follow-up with e-mail announcements for the website.

Old business: There were no adult participants from the troop at the scoutmaster/assistant scoutmaster outdoor training seminar.

After Action Report:

Spring Camporee: Weather was cold and rainy, there was a hike for all and map and compass activities for the 3 younger scouts.

Hike on 5/5 was cancelled due to lack of adult participation.

Nicholas Wolford’s Eagle Court of Honor was a great success.

Donna and Zachary attended the wake and funeral procession of Jason Wahl (Eagle scout from the council).

New business: Jeepfest will not be held this year at Pearson Park. We will need to look into other opportunities for fundraising. Suggestions were the Fireworks Festival 7/14 (sell soda and popcorn), or the Balloon Festival 7/26-29 (sell soda and popcorn) or the Lawrence County Fair August (collect aluminum cans).

Tan and Green Banquet cancelled for May 18 and rescheduled for July 9. Family pot luck and BBQ at Pearson Park. First meeting at the park. This will also be a Court of Honor.

Summer camp is approaching and two adults are needed to attend with the troop. Volunteers are needed. Troop pays for the adults to attend.

Upcoming Events:

May 5, Saturday-10-mile hike, location TBD. CANCELLED

May 7, Monday-Summer camp final payment due to troop, due to council on May 9.

May 11-13, Friday to Sunday, Woodsy Owl Weekend at Clear Creek State Park, campout and park clean-up. 5-mile hike on Hunter Trail, map and compass training for new scouts. Option for Weblos to join the event.

May 20, Sunday-15-mile bike ride in Canfield (trail). Bring lunch, water and dress for weather. Leave church lot at 8:00 am to be on trail at 9:00 am.

June 2, Saturday-BUCOCO SERVICE DAY. Help clean-up camp. Lunch and dinner will be provided.

OR

June 2, Saturday-John Thompson 5K Memorial Walk at Neshannock High School, 2:00 pm. Troop will pay for scouts to attend and adults with 70% activity in the troop. Class B uniform is required for this event.

June 9, Saturday-10-mile hike, North Country Trail from Route 528/Jennings and back.

June 17-23, Sunday to Saturday-Summer Camp at Camp Bucoco. Adults needed for this event.

JULY-Monday meetings will move to Pearson Park (floating location).

July 1, Sunday-25-mile bike ride, (Champion). Details to follow.

July 9, Monday-First summer meeting at Pearson Park (to continue through August). Also Court of Honor and family potluck dinner/BBQ planned for this meeting.

July 14, Saturday-Option to join 5K Run for your Heart. Part of Fireworks Festival activities.

August 5-11, Sunday to Saturday-NYLT (National Youth Leadership Training) to be held at Camp Bucoco. Scholarships (for half the cost) are available to eligible scouts from the troop.

August-Hale Farm and Camp Ottbre-(Colleen's dad's military vehicle collection) in August-Details to follow.

Sept/October-Bike-Aboard will be scheduled. Family-fun train and bike ride. Details to follow.

Ideas for activities: canoe trips, kayaking at Moraine State Park, Pittsburgh trip

Next meeting on Tuesday, June 4 at 7:00 pm.
